For all those Kids who are writing their SLC Examinations

SLC is an iron gate for many. If not in reality, it is an iron gate in perception, in People's mind and in our daily Talks. I wish to write this small Post on SLC to counsel our young kids, young brothers and sisters who are attending SLC 2069. I hope, if they get time to read this post, will get some solace by knowing that SLC is just another examination in Nepal and there is nothing to worry and fear!

First of all, SLC is School Leaving Certificate. It is an examination conducted by Government of Nepal to certify that you have successfully completed 10 years of schooling education in Nepal. Therefore, SLC Examination is the end of your ten years schooling and after passing SLC, you can think of going to University to join Intermediate Course or continue in Higher Secondary Schools where Class XI and XII can be studied.

Hence, SLC Examination is very important part in your life as after passing SLC, you are allowed to join University - you can think of getting higher education and studies. In Nepal, most of the jobs are open for only those people who have minimum education of passing SLC. From that perspective, SLC is important milestone in anyone's life.

However, the psyche and fear created around SLC Examination will add extra pressure on student's mind. In villages and in small towns, students are told to work hard, study all the time as the SLC is going to be very tough. SLC indeed is a difficult examination as it tries to gauge or ten years' of your education and development. Despite that, it is just an another examination. I feel students can do better if less amount of pressure and fear is created in his mind. 

I remember the days I wrote SLC almost 14 years ago. I was told and reminded all the times that it is the toughest examination and how to behave and sit in Examination Hall. I was told my slight turn of eyes on Left or Right can be construed as cheating by the invigilator and I can be thrown out from the Examination Hall. In the morning before I left for the First Examination, my brother sat with me and gave that final ten minutes lecture. I said that I will do only those things that I have been advised to do and will not indulge in those activities that are going to put me in danger. In the end, I felt it was just another Examination with undue and uncalled hype created.

These days, When I read the Papers, I see news headlines, "All Preparations are underway or over", "Question Papers have been sent to all the Districts" etc. These news create unnecessary pressure and tension on the mind of Parents and their Children. It is time that we should treat SLC Examinations just an another examination in Life.

So, all the Kids, Bros and Sisters out there, please treat SLC Examination 2069 as important part of your life but let it be simple and without any hype. Do not be under any kind of stress. Let it go easy and all the best to you for SLC Examination, 2069 in Nepal!

यस बर्षको एसएलसी यानी की प्रबेशिका परिक्षा (SLC Examinations, 2069) आउँन लागेछ। चैत्र एक गते अर्थात् मार्च महिनाको 14 तारिख बाट यो परिक्षा सुरु हुन् लागेको छ। यस बर्ष एसएलसी (SLC Examinations) लेख्ने सम्पूर्ण भाइबहिनी हरुलाई सफलताको सुभकामना। आशा छ परिक्षा एकदमै सान्तिपुर्बक र सफलता को साथ् होस्। यो परिक्षालाइ सफल पार्न सबैले सहयोग गरुन। आशा छ एसएलसी परिक्षा को दिन नेपाल बन्द, हड्ताल नहोस।

ति दिनहरुमा एसएलसी यानी की प्रबेशिका परिक्षा (SLC Examinations) लेख्नुपर्दा कति डर लागेको थियो। के होला। कसो होला। बिनाकारनै पो बाहिर निकालिदेला कि भन्ने डर थियो। तर तेस्तो केहि भएन। एसएलसी यानी की प्रबेशिका परिक्षा (SLC Examinations) पनि सामान्य झैँ लाग्यो। पास गरियो। त्यो बेलाको फर्स्ट डिभिजन। उ बेला एसएलसी यानी की प्रबेशिका परिक्षा (SLC Examinations) मा डिस्टिङ्ग्शन भन्ने थिएन।

In 2055 BS, When I wrote my SLC Examinations in Nepal (School Leaving Certificate Examinations), there was no Distinction Division in SLC Result. We, all those who crossed 60% Marks in SLC Examination, would be considered to have been passed in First Division.

We are sorry that we have written this blog post late but we thought late is better than nothing. Today, In short we are talking about SLC Examination and Its result in 2069 and future course for our yound boys and girls. Few days back, the result of SLC 2068 has been announced and it has been reported by Media that almost half of the total examinees have failed. That is sad. The First website belongs to Nepal Door Sanchar Sasthan (Nepal Telecom) and the Second site belongs to Government of Nepal, Ministry of Education, Office of the Controller of Examination (OCE), Sanothimi, Bhaktapur. These two sites are official sites for announcing SLC Results and though there are many private websites declaring/putting up SLC Result, they are not officially allowed sites. That's why we have not put these websites link here and we ourselves have not uploaded SLC Result in our website.

Why we are writing this blog post today? It is because we in Nepali Gajal have thought that we need to speak something about ill design of SLC Examinations. SLC stands for School Leaving Certificate Examination and in Nepal, it is considered by far the most difficult examination to crack. That's why it is also called 'iron gate' in Nepali education system.

However, SLC is a flawed concept. Nepal has already introduced Plus 2 system of education that is class 11 and 12 (Das Jod Dui in Nepali). Earlier, People used to attend Colleges after Class 10 that is after passing SLC. Now, Nepalese University are slowly phasing out Intermediate Level of Nepali University Education like I.A, I.Com, I.Ed. etc. and replacing it by 10+2 Education.

I.A, I.Com, I.Ed. etc. used to be conducted by Universities like Tribuwan University in Nepal and Now, 10+2 Education is managed by Higher Secondary Education Board in Nepal. In short it is called HSEB.

Now, with the changes education system all over, Nepal Government should reform its education and we hope that Nepal government will soon reform its education system so that people will write a comprehensive examination after Class 12 so that it will be decided whether a student is ready to go to Universities to study University Level Education - Bachelor Degree. Therefore, we at NepaliGajal think that we have a faulty education system in Nepal and it must be reformed soon.
